The Origin of the Brand Name｜Untie | 結結

I’m Lady, the founder of Untie | 結結—
a woman once labeled as “crazy,” simply because I struggled with severe depression.

Untie stands for “no knots, no entanglement.”
It reflects the way of living I’ve been practicing for over a decade.

Through the years, I went through self-harm, hurting others, emotional breakdowns, unemployment, losing friends...
Year after year, I kept picking up the pieces after each collapse—rebuilding my life, rewriting my résumé, and starting over again and again.

A Healing Journey Disguised as Entrepreneurship

Right after graduating from university, I eagerly dived into entrepreneurship.
I dreamed of using e-commerce to showcase Taiwan’s cultural creativity to the world, transforming it into industries and products.
During that time, I met many kind mentors and great opportunities, but again and again, everything fell apart because of my mental health struggles.

On the eve of founding Untie, I hurt myself once more.

I only remember taking off my headphones—and the next second, it felt like the world warped through time and space. Suddenly, the police were at my home.
The next day, I woke up to dozens of missed calls from the police station.
It wasn’t the first time, but it became the moment I truly decided to change.

I began to face my condition seriously.
Besides medical treatment, I spent over ten years exploring various healing practices—yoga, therapy, crystals, energy painting, even visiting temples big and small, hoping that mysticism could somehow save me from my inner pain.

But in the end, I understood:
In this battle, I had to be prepared for the worst, and I had to fight it myself.

I’ve worked through severe depressive episodes, crying as I kept a smiling face to serve customers—
as if the tears and my body had nothing to do with "me."

Taiwan, a Cradle of Cultural Fusion

I was born in Taiwan—this little island once called Formosa.
Small, yet incredibly vibrant,
Taiwan is a melting pot of languages, beliefs, and cultures from around the world, weaving a beautiful tapestry of diversity and acceptance.

I majored in fashion design in school.
For me, it was a world of endless imagination.
Not just fabric—any material, any inspiration, could be transformed into art.

Why Choose Bows as the Core of the Brand?

The name Untie represents a choice:
not to grip tightly anymore—not giving up, but gently letting go.

In Chinese, the word "結" (jié) means both connection, bond and ending, closure.
Bows have been with us since childhood—on gifts, on shoelaces.

Making a bow is both a craft and a state of mind.

I gradually mend the pieces of my broken heart.

I still choose to make bows.
They help me find rhythm again, reconnect with beauty, and create delicate details.
