Untie|The Story Behind the Brand Name (2) – Why Bows?

TabbyYeh

Hello, I’m Lady—the person behind Untie | 結結.
I come from a background in fashion design, starting from specializing in apparel design in high school, and advancing to fashion design at university. Step by step, I entered this path where creativity and aesthetics converge.

I fell in love with fashion design when I discovered that—from material, silhouette to craftsmanship—every piece of clothing could become an extension of one’s imagination.
Fashion, to me, is not just about dressing up; it is an expression of the body’s aura and a way to speak to the world.

A Brand Born from a Journey of Healing

I was born in Taiwan, a culturally rich island that feels like a great cultural washing machine, blending beliefs and customs from around the world, sparking endless creative energy.

During my upbringing, Taiwan was going through rapid changes.
The economy had stabilized, but new challenges arose: people had to learn how to afford and pursue their dreams.

For me, this brand is not merely a business or hobby.
It is a goal I set for myself while learning to live with severe depression—
in many ways, a form of self-rehabilitation, a deep conversation between my body, mind, and soul.

The greatest support from my family was probably... not opposing me too strongly.
Except for that classic line:
"Did you choose fashion design because you don't know how to dress?"
It sounded like sarcasm, but I knew it was their unfamiliar way of showing concern and blessing.

Taiwan holds many layers of culture, as well as gaps between generations.
And through those gaps, I want to create gentle yet resilient pathways.

"Do not hurt others because of your illness; do not allow yourself to be hurt because of it."

This is a belief I often reminded myself of during difficult times.
Although I must admit there were moments when my pain led me to emotionally hurt others—
those experiences showed me my own fragility and growth, and helped me walk the healing journey, one honest step at a time.

Why Bows?

I once wrote:
"If some knots cannot be untied, then at least tie them beautifully."

The bow, for me, is a symbol—of entanglement, decoration, and rebirth.

In the world of design, I have always been drawn to anything related to beauty, whether in fashion, accessories, or visual creations.

But honestly, creating bows was a real challenge.
I was the kind of kid who could draw crooked lines even with a ruler (laughs).
Sometimes my hands tremble; sometimes medication affects my memory—
even something small, like forgetting how many centimeters I just cut, could be frustrating.

Especially in the early days of the brand, every tiny detail—from cutting, folding, and shaping, to choosing materials, matching colors, and designing hardware—
became both a technical discipline and a spiritual practice for me.

And because of that, every bow is almost one of a kind.
Some are the result of deliberate challenges; others are impulsive creations sparked by sudden inspiration.
Sometimes it’s adding an extra ribbon, a pearl charm, or layering asymmetrical textures...

All of this stems from my love for accessory design, my passion for cultural creativity,
and a deep wish to reconcile with myself.

Moving Forward Slowly, Gently, Without Giving Up

The website is still under construction, and checkout may not be available yet.
At the same time, I am still learning how to live in harmony with my emotions,
practicing how to find balance between healing and reality while building this brand.

If you find a design you like, have questions, want to chat, or simply want to say hello, you are more than welcome to reach out.

Thank you for taking the time to stay and to discover the story behind these bows.
This is more than just an accessory brand—
it is a message I wish to share with the world:

"Softness is a form of strength, and even a bow can be armor."
